BackgroundIPLS is a term applied to the single system for reporting and distributionrnpharmaceutical items based on the overall mandate and scope of the PFSA. This system aims tornprovide patients pharmaceuticals they need. In order for this system to be successful, it mustrnfulfill all the six rights of supply chain management which are ensuring right type of item, of thernright quality, in the right quantity, at the right place, at the right time and with the right cost. Atrna facility level, IPLS incorporates all the three logistic functions which are Logistic ManagementrnInformation System, Inventory Control System, and Storage System of pharmaceuticals. Thernobjectives of the study is intended to measure the performance of integrated pharmaceuticalrnlogistics system implementation in Black Lion Hospital. The study used explanatory (descriptive)rnresearch design whereby the IPLS System, the inventory control system and the storage system ofrnthe hospital was assessed and examined against the requirements and standards of IPLS.rnPurposive sampling technique was used to collect data. In addition, questionnaire & interviewrnwere some of the tools used in the data collection process. The result of IPLS implementationrnincludes availability & proper use of the system, IPLS data quality, training and supervision onrnlogistics management, stock availability, availability of expired items, fulfillment of acceptablernstorage conditions for drugs store room, resupply period, order fill rate, emergency order trendsrnand major challenges on IPLS implementation are described as existing problems in thernhospital. Inconclusion & recommendation with respect to some measurements such asrnavailability of IPLS system, supervision and training, availability of drugs, resupply period, rnemergency order trend, and the effort towards IPLS implementation in the Hospital isrnencouraging. But much gap is observed in some other measurements such as in properrnutilization of the system, IPLS data quality, and perceived an order fill rate and storagerncondition which leads to an overall conclusion that IPLS is not being implemented in thernHospital in full scale. In order to bring improvements, among other things, there should bernregular supportive supervision and continuous training, in placing consistent monitoring andrnevaluation mechanisms, enforcing strict adherence to the IPLS procedures and standards, andrnincreased commitment of top management.
