Management consulting as a profession is a coveted aspiration for managementrnprofessionals. This academic note seeks to define management consulting asrnan industry, draw its boundaries, highlight the unique contributions ofrnmanagement consultants and consulting firms, the profession in developingrncountries is of more recent origin, and the development process has been morernslow and professional guidance and principles have not yet been fullyrndeveloped, because universities, professional societies and associations, havernnot achieved the status that enables them to perform a supportive role.
