The purpose of this study is mainly to identify causes of labor absenteeism in thernArtistic Printing Enterprise and to look in to their impact on the production andrnproductivity of the organization under study thereby to suggest suitable measuresrnfor improving the conditions of labor absenteeism to an acceptable level.rnThe research is conducted using the descriptive research method. The datarnrequired for the research is obtained from both primary and secondary datarncollection methods. The primary data collection methods were survey throughrnquestionnaire and interview.rnAnalysis and interpretation of the data through the aforementioned methods givernrise to the following results. As per data an.alyzed, the overall rate of laborrnabsenteeism for all departments for the two years of investigation (covering thernperiod from March 2003 up to the month of April 2005) was 5.02% i.e.rn13.2%+4.8%+2.0%+2.6%+2.5%=25.1 % divided by 5 =5.02%rnSince the rate of labor absenteeism in the production department is as high asrn13.2% on an average for the two years of investigation which is very seriousrnmanagement should take measures to lower it to acceptable level. The 5.02%rnaverage rate of labor absenteeism for the whole organization is still out of therntolerable limit as compared to the printing industry of the 1.8% rate. Hence, herernalso intervention is required to curb the problem.rnRegarding the impact of labor absenteeism on production and productivity thernfollowing hypothetical relationship has been observed. The higher the rate ofrnabsenteeism the lower the production of books as clearly observed in therncomputation.rnThe findings revealed that the average rate of absenteeism in the productionrndepartment is so serious that management should take measures to minimize tornthe level acceptable.
