This project is an explanatory research to evaluate whether the currently prevaijingrnconditions in the country are sufficient to introduce card-based payment. A frameworkrnevaluation approach is used to analyze the existing conditions. The researchrnmethodology used is an in depth interview of key informants from relevant institutionsrnto the subject. Ethiopia is a country which had its own money in ancient times7 butrnnow it is one of the few countries that use ancient payment system- cash-basedrnpayment. But this situation must be changed at some point and the country needs to bernacquainted to modern payment systems7 such as card based payments that developI17grncountries7 including those in Africa are using. Currentl~ there are recent Initiationsrnstarted by commercial banks. The necessary frameworks for this purpose are found [0rnbe weak but they are sufficient to begin the operation of card based payment system inrnthe country. To this end, all the stakeholders Including the government must jOinrnhands to strengthen the weak pOints and smoothen the process of adopting the system.
