Background: Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder characterized by chronicrnhyperglycemia resulting from absolute or relative lack of insulin secretion or insulinrnresistance by peripheral tissues. Many drugs arerncommercially available for use in the management of diabetes. However, their side effects andrnhigh costs underscore the need for herbal alternative drugs. Fenugreek is one of the medicinalrnplants which are important in the management of diabetes mellitus.rnObjective:The main purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of fenugreek seedrnpowder solution on blood glucose level and lipid profile of newly diagnosed type II diabeticrnpatients.rnMethodology: Study was conducted at Ayder Referral Hospital and Mekelle General Hospitalrnlocated in Mekelle city. A total of 114 newly diagnosed type II diabetic patients were selected.rnThey were grouped into two, group one treatment group (57) consumed 25 gm fenugreek seedrnpowder solution orally twice a day for one month and the second group was control (57).
