The Purpose of this thesis seeks to provide a conceptual model that explainsrnthe Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system to general and project managersrnin a non-technical manner that is easily understood.rnThe methodologies used in the thesis are evaluating the current system of thernfactory particularly the resources. This is very important step to determine thernway of implementing ERP system. In the thesis two types of implementationrnschemes are suggested i.e. the company wide and Quick slice.rnCompany-wide implementation: total company project; all ERP functionsrnimplemented; time frame one to two years.rnQuick-Slice ERP implantation: confined to one or several Pareto high-impactrnproduct lines; most, but not all, ERP functions implemented; time frame threernto five months.rnThus based on the questionnaire survey, the main problem in the factory is thernproduction delay and its immediate consequence of high manufacturing cost.rnThe same result is obtained when a discussion is held with the heads, expertsrnand team leaders. The past data records of the factory also depicts the samernreason with that of the questionnaire survey.rnBased on the given problems the reasons which cause it are identified, ratedrnand evaluated based on ERP systems.rnBusiness models are used as a starting point to show how the ERP systems arernintegrated and finally software is developed for inventory management systemrnand human resource management.rnFindings from the thesis work are that ERP is more than just software. Unless arnclear understanding exists of the different components and their integrationrnERP projects will continue to be plagued by failure. This model is applicable tornany ERP system as it is generic and vendor independent and helps determiningrnthe scope of an ERP project.rnThe value of the thesis is that it enables general and project managers tornunderstand ERP systems better without becoming overwhelmed by product orrntechnical detail. This facilitate the successful implementation of ERP systems, rnthus ensuring project success and, ultimately, organizational success.
