Determination Of Iodine Content In Salt Samples Commercially Available In Debre Tabor Town South Gondar Ethiopia

Background:  Iodine  is  essential  trace  element  important  for  synthesis  of  thyroid  hormones. rnHuman  body  cannot  synthesize  iodine;  it  is  obtained  from  different  sources.  Inadequate rnconsumption  of  iodine  leads  to  iodine  deficiency  disorder.  Iodine  deficiency  disorder  is  major rnglobal  public  health  problem  and  it  is  possible  to  root  out  this  problem  by  universal  salt rniodization.  rnObjective:  The  main  aim  of  this  study  is  to  determine  iodine  content  in  salt  samples rncommercially available in Debre Tabor town using rapid test kit (RTK) and iodometric titration. rnMethodology:  The  study  was  conducted  in  Debre  Tabor  town  from  December  16  to  29,  2019 rnand  cross-  sectional  study  was  used  to  determine  the  iodine  content  in  salt  samples  purchased rnfrom  different  shops  of  Debre  Tabor  town.  All  statistical  analyses  were  analyzed  using  the rnsoftware,  Statistical  Package  for  the  Social  Science  (SPSS) rnversionrn  21  and  results  were  expressed rnas  mean  ±  standard  deviation.  Statistical  difference  between  mean  iodine  content  of  salt  was rnanalyzed by  One  Way  Analysis  of  Variance  (ANOVA)  and statistical  significance  was  accepted rnat p 15 mg/kg  except  for  Ediget  salt
