Background: There is an increasing interest to understand the experiences of interns when rntheir patients die, with a view to improving the support available to them and strengthening rntheir existing coping strategies. rnAim: The aim of this study was to explore the experiences of interns with deaths of their rnpatients. rnMethods: The study setting was at Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital. The study design was rna qualitative study using in-depth interviews. Respondents were selected purposively, based rnon gender and seniority. Interviews were audio-recorded and transcribed. Thematic analysis rnwas used. rnFindings: Interviewed participants were eight. Emerged themes categorized under five rncategories those categories are concept of death, experience to death, reaction of death, rntraining aspect and coping mechanisms. The study finds that interns feel some level of rndistress in the face of death depending on the case. rnConclusion: Improved psychological and emotional focused support is recommended for rninterns.
