Background rnThe main aim of this study to assess the selected hematological and biochemical profile ofrntrainees at the Ethiopian youth sports academy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Taking part in sports atrna young age has many important health benefits, even if it may involve some risk. This happensrnmostly at the elite level given the intensive training programs and high-frequency participation inrnsports events. The response of this exercise involves changes in the hematological andrnbiochemical profiles of the body, which was inadequately investigated in our set up.rnMethods: - Cross-sectional study was donefrom Jan to March 2020 recruiting 230 Ethiopianrnyouth sports academy (EYSA) trainees who were taking training indifferent sports types. rnHematological and biochemical profiles weremeasuredfrom whole blood and serum collectedby rnEDTA and SST, respectively. Sysmex XN hematological and BS 200 Mindraybiochemicalrnanalyzeswere used for analysis. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 23softwareand testsrnincluding chi-square, preasons correlation, one-way ANOVAs, Games Howells post hoc test.rnStatistical significance was set at a 95% confidence interval and P-value is less than 0.05. rnResults: - The hematological and selected biochemical parameters determined for both male andrnfemale RBC male (mean ± SD), 5.52 ± 0.46, 5.14 ±0.39, HGB 15.98 ±1.32, 15.00 ±1.07, PLTrn274.20 ± 59.24, 292.24 ±63.30, WBC 5.95 ± 1.72, 6.25 ± 1.69, Creatinine 0.79 ± 0.16, 0.83 ±rn0.18, and cholesterol 108.78 ± 24.42, 124.03 ± 31. 33. etc.respectively.In the study, there was arnstatistically significant association between hematological profile with the year of trainingrnexperience for HCT, basophils % (P< 0.05) others hematological and biochemical parameters didrnnot have significance (P>0.05). Variation hematological and biochemical profile betweenrndifferent sport disciplines statistically significant differences for all hematological andrnbiochemical profile (P< 0.05) except for MCH, PLT, Monocyte, lymphocyte, basophil absoluternnumbers, basophils % and GPT whose p-value were (> 0.05).rnConclusion: - Hematological and biochemical profiles were determined for both male andrnfemale trainees of EYSA. Association of hematological and selected biochemical profile withrnyears of training experience did not show a significant difference for both parameters exceptrnHCT and BASO %. Variation of both hematological and biochemical profile for most parametersrnhad a statistically significant difference between mean group and between differentsportsrndiscipline Recommendation: -It will be useful if clinicians use the determined hematological parametersrnas a reference until the discipline-specific reference range is stated for them.
