Background: Chronic kidney disease is now recognized as a global public health problem. rnDiabetes is the leading cause of Chronic kidney disease in developed countries and is becomingrnthe leading cause of death in developing countries as well. The increasing prevalence ofrndiabetes worldwide, especially type-2, virtually assures that the proportion of CKD attributablernto diabetes will continue to rise. DM alone accounts for 44% of kidney failure. Though manyrnpatients are suffering from DM complications in Dessie town, not any assessment had beenrnundertaken so far about the prevalence and associated factors of CKD. rnObjective: The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of CKD and its associated riskrnfactors among DM adult patients attending Dessie Referral Hospital, Wollo, Ethiopia 2020. rnMaterials and methods: Cross-sectional study was conducted in Dessie Referral Hospitalrn(DRH) among 267 randomly selected diabetic adult patients. Demographic, clinical, andrnlaboratory data were collected from February 21 ,2020 to April 03, 2020. The GFR wasrnestimated from serum creatinine using the CKD-EPI equation, and CKD was defined usingrnestimated GFR (e-GFR) and proteinuria(dipstick).
