Background: Job satisfaction is the affective orientation that an employee has towards theirrnwork. What makes a job satisfying or unsatisfying does not depend only on the nature of the job,rnbut also on the expectations that individuals have of what their job should provide.rnObjectives: The main objective of this study is to compare levels of professional nurses andrnmidwives job satisfaction and its determinants between functional and business processing re-rnengineering (BPR) method of organization in Hawassa university teaching hospitals, SNNPR,rnEthiopia.rnMethods: Institutional based cross- sectional descriptive data was collected by using self-rnadministered questioners complimented by focus group discussions from 122 nurses andrnmidwives full time workers who were randomly selected via simple random sampling technique.rnResults: The analysis and interpretation of data was made using simple percentage count, meanrnscore, and crude and adjusted odds ratio. Narrations of some qualitative data were also used.rnConcerning the findings of overall job satisfaction on both methods of organization almost halfrnby half result were found, means the new method (BPR) couldn’t bring a significant change onrnnurses and midwives job satisfaction. Also half of the respondents were planned to learn out ofrnnursing science in the coming five years because of hate of organizational affiliation towardsrnnurses. This may cause shortage of experienced nurses and midwives which is a global problemrnnowadays.rnConclusion: The study in this regard showed that a lot has to be done in the future to avert thisrnsituation. To this end, it should receive special managerial attention by finding out possiblernstrategies, to strengthen predictors of intention to remain employed and upgrading theirrnknowledge in nursing sciences, like employment practices that reflect moral integrity,rnincorporate clear communication systems, maximize employee involvement in decision-making,rncohesive working relationships (cooperation with medical staff), appropriateness of the systemrnfor nursing, promote praise and recognition, and establish a shared vision and goals
