Abortion law and policy liberalization could lead to dropping of unsafe abortion and related deathsrnhowever, unsafe abortion is still major problem of the whole society. Many women want to seekrnunsafe abortions practice due to inadequate access to safe abortion and other reproductive healthrnservices that can help them to prevent complication. Therefore, assessing the knowledge andrnattitude of high school student towards safe abortion care provision is important.rnObjective: This study was to assess the knowledge and attitude of preparatory school studentrntoward safe abortion in selected governmental school in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia 2015.rnMethodology: Institutional based cross sectional study design was employed and a total of 626rnrespondents were participated in the study. Data was collected by using self-administered pre-rntested and semi structured questionnaire of Amharic version. The data was cleaned, coded andrnentered into EPi data 3.1 versions and transferred to SPSS version 21 windows for analyses.rnResult: Out of all respondents 66 (27.3%) of males and 224 (57.3%) of females had adequaternknowledge related to safe abortion in general .From this female were 3.520 times more likelyrnknowledgeable on safe abortion care provision than male at AOR 3.520;95%:CI (2.471, 5.01)rnamong 626 students 319 (51) of them have favorable attitude from this 19.6% grade 11, 57.8%rngrade 12 .from this Grade 11were 0.35 times less likely have favorable attitude than grade 12 atrnAOR 0.35; 95% CI 0.35(0.25-0.50)rnConclusion: students had inadequate knowledge and unfavorable attitude towards safe abortion.rnSex, educational level and age were likely to had significant association towards knowledge andrnattitude on safe abortion.rnRecommendation From this study the investigator recommended that the Ministry of educationrnand Social welfare in partnership with other implementing partners to review their strategies andrnfocus in the school program.rnKeyword: knowledge, attitude and safe abortion
