Background: Globally, every minute, at least one woman dies from complications related tornpregnancy or childbirth. The situation is more serious for women in Sub-Saharan Africarnwhich also include Ethiopia. Birth preparedness is a strategy to promote the timely use ofrnskilled maternal and neonatal care, especially during childbirth. Based on the theory,rnpreparing for childbirth reduces delays in obtaining this care. In adequate preparation forrnrapid action in the event of obstetric complications, are well documented factors contributingrnto delay in receiving skilled obstetric care.rnObjective: The objective of this study was to identify the knowledge of birth preparednessrnand complication readiness and its associated factors among primigravida in Addis AbabarnGovernmental health Facilities.rnMethods: A quantitative facility based cross-sectional study design and client exit interviewrnquestionnaire were used to assess the knowledge & associated factors of birth preparednessrnand complication readiness among primigravida women. Four hundred forty two primigravidarnwomen those who came for Antenatal care service in health centres & hospitals werernincluded. The data was entered using Epidata version3.1 and Statistical Package for SocialrnScience window version20 soft ware used for data analysis and logistic regression model wasrnused to assess the knowledge by predictor’s variables.rnResult: From 442 respondents the response rate was 422(95.5 %). Based on the operationalrndefinition of the study, the respondents were knowledgeable in pregnancy, labour, postnatalrnand new born neonate 113(26.8%), 47(11.1 %), 60(14.2%) and 46(10.9%) respectively.rnAccording to birth preparedness 64 (15.2%) of primigravida women were knowledgeable. Inrnthis study, factors associated with knowledge ofrnbirth preparedness and complicationrnreadiness were found to be married women with [AOR=0.110, 95%CI (0.026, 0.461)rnp
