Background; Recently Diabetes mellitus is becoming an important clinical and public healthrnproblem throughout the world. In Ethiopia although it is known that diabetes is becoming one of thernemerging health issue, little is known about its prevention and the different ways of management inrnthe general population. Specifically when we see type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM), which mostlyrnaffects children is now increasing rapidly. So in order to prevent and manage it properly we have torninclude all responsible bodies. Families who are supportive and knowledgeable can affect thernoutcome of the diabetes in a good way. This study has tried to assess the knowledge and associatedrnfactors that the care givers had.rnObjectives; The objective of this study is to assess the knowledge of type 1 diabetes mellitus andrnassociated factors among care givers of children attending diabetic clinic in hospitals in AddisrnAbaba, Ethiopia, from March to June 2016.rnMethods; An institutional based quantitative cross sectional study was employed with the carerngivers of children with T1DM, in public hospitals, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. A structured interviewer administered questionnaire was used to collect information, andrnthen the data was coded, entered and cleaned using the statistical software Epi data.
