Health-related Quality Of Life And Its Associated Factors Among Type 2 Diabetic Patients Attending Felege Hiwot Referral Hospital Bahir Dar Amhara Regional State North West Ethiopia 2015
Introduction: Diabetes mellitus is a chronic non-communicable disease with considerablernimpact on health status and quality of life. It can have a profound effect on quality of life in termsrnof social and psychological well-being as well as physical ill-health.rnObjective: The aim of this study was to assess health related quality of life and its associatedrnfactors among Type 2 diabetic patients attending in Felege Hiwot Referral Hospital.rnMethods: Institutional based cross-sectional study design with both quantitative and qualitativernmethod was conducted April 15 to May 15, 2015. Structured and validated questionnaire wasrnadapted from WHOQOL-BREF for collecting quantitative data and systematic samplingrntechnique was used to select 344 participants while in-depth interview were conducted on eightrnParticipants for qualitative study. SPSS Statistics Version 20 was used, the data was summarized,rnorganized in tables, graphs and described with percentage and mean scores. Simple and multiplernlinear regressions analysis was used to see the association between dependent and independentrnvariables and the result was presented by using p-value 47 years old, with a mean age of 40.54+15.208. Age, educational status,rnincome, marital status, occupation, presence of diabetic related Complications had a positive &rnstatistically significant association with health related quality of life (HRQOL). While gender,rndrug regimen and duration with diabetic mellitus(DM) illness were not found to be statisticallyrnsignificant predictors of Health related quality of life.rnConclusions: The overall health related quality of life was lower in older patients. Patients withrnlower educational status had poor QOL than well educated once. Unemployed DM patients hadrnlow quality of life than employed. As income increases health related quality of life (HRQOL) ofrnPatient would likely increase.rnRecommendations: Health care team for diabetics should not be only disease-centered; QOLrnshould regularly assessed and improved accordingly, Special attention should be given to DMrnpatients to create job opportunities, further research need to be conducted by including largernsample size.rnKey-words: Health- related quality of life, Type 2 diabetes
