Background Malnutrition remains one of the most common causes of morbidity and mortalityrnamong children throughout the world. It is responsible about 60% cause of death in under age ofrn5 yearsrnObjective To assess knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) of mothers feeding their under fivernchildren in a rural community Kellecha Tikka Kebele, of Sebeta Awas district, SurroundingrnFinfine special Zone, Oromia Region, 2014 G.CrnMethods and Materials: - A cross-sectional study design was conducted on 597 mothers torndetermine the level of knowledge, attitude and practice and their relation with socio-economicrndemographic characteristic in Kellecha Tikka Kebele. The data was manipulated and analyzed byrnusing Epi.info version 3.4.3 and SPSS version 21.0.rnResult: - from the total of 597 mothers, 339 (56.8%) had no sufficient knowledge about childrnfeeding and 258 (43.2%) had sufficient knowledge about child feeding. From the total of 597,rn585 (98%) gave food or liquid before six months age and only 12 (2%) had not been given foodrnor liquid. The mother had good practice 271 (45.5%) and poor practice 327 (54.6%) as well asrngood attitude 279 (46.6%) and poor attitude were 318 (53.3%). In multivariate analysis thernmother who can read and write was less likely good practice than that learnt secondary schoolrnand above. The protestant followers had best practice towards child feeding than other religionrnfollowersrnConclusion:- Generally the study showed that from the total of 597, 585 (98%) gave food orrnliquid before six months age and only 12 (2%) had not been given food or liquid. From 585 thatrngave liquid or fluid before six months of age 55 (9%) gave the water, 274 (47%) gave the butter,rn235 (40%) gave the milk and 26 (4%) other food or liquid like tenadam for their children beforernsix months of age. This low level of knowledge (56.8%) about child feeding and not know therntime of EBF resulted that the study took place in the rural area and affected by another socio-rndemographic characteristics. From this result most of the mother reported as they knew EBF butrnwhen asked did they give food or fluid before six months of age 585 (98%) did that. The motherrnwho can read and write was less likely good practice than that learnt secondary school and above.rnThe protestant followers had best practice towards child feeding than other religion followers.
