Background: adolescence is a continuum of physical, cognitive, behavioral and psychosocialrnchange that is characterized by increasing levels of individual autonomy, a growing sense ofrnidentity and self-esteem and progressive independence from adults. Open family discussionrnon reproductive health (RH) issues often leads to increased awareness on RH matters andrnreduces risky behaviors among adolescentsrnObjective: The aim of the study was to assess parent adolescent communication andrnassociated factors among students attending education at Abdissa Aga secondary and Fichernpreparatory schools in Fiche town, Oromia Regional State, Ethiopia, 2017rnMethod: Institution based quantitative cross-sectional study was conducted on March 27,rn2017 using adapted and modified self-administered questionnaire. Two schools in the townrnwere included in the study. A total of 394 students were included in the study. Data wasrnentered using epidata manager with double entry verification. Multivariable logisticrnregression analysis was performed and variables with p-value of less than 0.05 were taken asrnstatistically significant.rnResult: The prevalence of students who had ever discussed sexual and reproductive healthrnissues with either of the parents on at least two topics was 118(31.2%). The independentrnpredictors for parent adolescent sexual and reproductive health communication were:rneducational status of mother (AOR 3.164, 95%CI=1.279-7.830), father educational statusrn(AOR 4.848, 95%CI=1.271-18.499). Students who had knowledge about sexual andrnreproductive health issues were more likely to communicate when compared to their counterrnparts.rnConclusion and Recommendation: The occurence of parent adolescent sexual andrnreproductive health communication is low among secondary and preparatory school in ficherntown. Fiche town administration in collaboration with concerned bodies should facilitaternadolescent-friendly services in order to enhance sex related education.rnKeywords: Communications, sexual and reproductive health issues, associated factors, Ficherntown
