Background: Unintended pregnancies among adolescence become crucial health problemrnfor all countries especially in Sub-Saharan Africa. Eventhough different preventionrnstrategies were applied across the world, the problem still increasing in Africa, particularlyrnin Ethiopia.rnObjective: To assess the magnitude and associated factors of unintended pregnancyrnamong preparatory school students in Addis Ababa.rnMethods: School based cross-sectional study was employed. For descriptive statisticsrnfrequencies, percentage and mean was use. Bivariate and multiple logistic regressionrnanalyses were employed to examine the relationship between getting unintendedrnpregnancy with its associated factors. Significant association was determined at 95%CIrnAOR.rnResults: A total of 576 female students were participated making 100 %, response rate.rnThe respondents’ mean age was 17.79(±0.076). 118(20.4± 3%; 95% CI) of the studentsrnreported that had ever experienced an unintended pregnancy. Nearly all unintendedrnpregnancy was aborted with proportion of 117(99.16%). Among all 288 (50%± 4) reportedrnto have had sexual experience at the time of the study. The mean age at first sexualrnintercourse was 17 (±0.12, 95% CI); among sexually active students 266 (92%) usedrncontraceptives while they had sex. Students drank alcohol were three times morernexperience unintended pregnancy compared to none drunkard [AOR=3; 95% CI: 1.86, 13].rnStudents who chewed Kchat were two times more experience unintended pregnancy AOR:rn2.0; 95%CI (1.4, 3.0). Students who watched pornographic movies were three times morernlikely to experience unintended pregnancy AOR: 2.9; 95%CI (1.9, 4.4). Students who didrnnot discuss about reproductive health were two times more likely to get unintendedrnpregnancy AOR=2.38; 95% CI: 1.38, 4.13]; and students who had ever used contraceptivernmethod were less experienced unwanted pregnancy AOR=0.065; 95%CI: 0.034, 0.121].rnConclusion: Students should get information about reproductive health from healthrnprofessionals, trained teachers, peer promoters and Medias in order to prevent unintendedrnpregnancy.rnKey words: Unintended pregnancy, Preparatory student, Sexual behavior, associatedrnfactors
