Background: Clinical practice is the major component of the nursing profession. Studentrnnurses’ attitude towards clinical practice is one of the major factor for student nurses’ clinicalrnlearning. Favorable attitude towards clinical practice promotes effective clinical learning,rnwhereas unfavorable attitude hiders the acquisition of necessary practical skills. Student nurses’rnattitude towards clinical practice is affected by a number of internal and external factors.rnHowever, researches with this regard were meager in Ethiopia.rnObjective: To assess student nurses’ attitude towards clinical practice and associated factorsrnamong Hawassa university students, Hawassa, Ethiopia.rnMethodology: Institution based cross sectional study design was employed from April 10th –rn25th, 2015. A total of 290 respondents participated in the study. Multistage sampling techniquernis used to get the sample of student nurses. Data was collected using self-administeredrnquestionnaire of English version. Pre-test was done on 5% nursing students of AAU. StatisticalrnPackage for Social Sciences (SPSS) version-20 was used was used for data entry and analysis.rnDescriptive statistics and Logistic regression was used to analyze the data, and Odds Ratio wasrnused to test association, P< 0.05 was considered significant and 95 % confidence interval wasrnused.rnResult: The Findings of this study indicated that 168(58%) respondents have favorable attituderntowards clinical practice and the mean attitude score was 14.99, median 15.00, and standardrndeviation was 2.49. Majority of the respondents, 169(58.3%), came late to clinical practice. Thernresults of this study also indicated that readiness to interact with other medical staff [AOR= 2.43rn(1.072-5.50)], and confidence towards nursing profession [AOR=5.69(2.49-13.01)] were shownrnto be enhancing factors for favorable attitude towards clinical practice; while inadequaternpreparation for clinical practice [AOR= 0.41 (0.22-0.76)] was shown to be hindering factor ofrnfavorable attitude towards clinical practice.rnConclusion and recommendation: Late coming, readiness to interact with other medical staff,rnconfidence towards nursing profession and inadequate preparation for clinical practice werernsignificantly associated with favorable attitude towards clinical practice. Thus, measures shouldrnbe taken to help student nurses develop the prerequisite knowledge and skills for clinicalrnpractice, facilitate frequent and supportive supervision, and encourage appropriate professionalrnattitude and student nurse interaction with other medical staff
