As this claim has not been investigated scientifically, the aim of this study was to evaluate the diuretic effect of the aqueous and 80% methanol leaf extracts of Foeniculum vulgare in rats. Spargue Daweley rats were divided into eight groups each comprising six rats. Control group received distilled water 10 mL/kg, the reference group received hydrochlorthiazide 10 mg/kg and the test groups were administered different doses of aqueous or 80% methanol extract (100, 200 and 400 mg/kg) orally. Urine output was collected up to 24 h and analyzed for electrolyte contents.
