Many African nations are living in a perverse condition, as they are vulnerable to variousrnproblems such as political, economic, and social risks. Also, they are vulnerable to the problemsrnof environmental injustice, which negatively affect their livelihood and overall wellbeing. In thisrnthesis, I explored the connection between environmental injustice and development by examiningrndifferent dimensions of environmental injustice in Africa. I argued that both environmentalrnjustice and development approach share many elements such as recognition, participation, andrncapabilities in common. I critically explored four instances of environmental injustice in Africa, rnsuch as land grabbing, electronic waste importation, overexploitation of natural resources andrnurban waste management; and their impacts on human development in the continent.rnFurthermore, the above mentioned instances of environmental injustice have had devastatingrnimpacts on economic development, culture, natural environment, sustainability, empowermentrnand social opportunities. This thesis suggested that meaningful participation of the society and other concerned stakeholders should be in place to solve these and other related problems. This thesis is based on relevant secondary sources.rnKeywords: Development, Environment, Environmentalism, Environmental Injustice,rnEnvironmental justice
