The main purpose of the study was to identify and evaluate the challenges encounteredrnthrough project management practices in Ethiopian Airports Infrastructure developmentrnprojects. The study aims to point out these difficulties and thus improve the projectrnmanagement practice in order to benefit from the findings. A descriptive research methodrnwas used in order to achieve the intended purpose of the study. Questionnaire, interview andrnreview were used for the purpose of collecting required data for the study. The Questionnairernsurvey were collected from the Ethiopian Airport employees who are directly involved inrninfrastructure development project planning, Executing and controlling. Purposive samplingrntechnique was employed in selecting the samples. The data were analyzed using softwarernStatistical Package for Social Science (SPSS V.20) to generate mean, frequencies, standardrndeviation and percentages of the statics. The study found out that among 45 challengingrnfactors identified in the literature participants are agreed on 18 factors as a significantrnchallenge in projects they have been involved recently. Again ten of the identified factors arernthe major significant challenging factors these are; These are Lack of Project ManagementrnSkills and training in project management; Unexpected events with no effective responsernpossible; Project schedule delays; Changing requirements late in the project and continuingrnchange requests; Low commitment of Stakeholders towards planned projects; Failure tornmanage expectations; Poor risk management; Not obtaining stakeholder approval; Lowrncommitment of Stakeholders towards planned projects; Lack of clearly defined Rules andrnprocedures for project management. Furthermore, the study revealed that factors within fourrnknowledge areas including Enterprise Environmental factors are significantly challenged;rnthese are Project Risk Management, Project Schedule Management, Project Stakeholderrnmanagement and Project Scope Management. Therefore, based on the findings, it isrnsuggested that stronger emphasis should be given on the major challenges identified in thernstudy, appropriate project management methodology should be adopted and all factors shouldrnbe studied carefully.
