At the time where project management becomes as a norm for many organizations, researchrnsuggests that communication management is one of the key areas in project management. Thisrnresearch, therefore, examines the current practice of communication management in IT projectsrnin the case of the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia. In this descriptive survey, an onlinernquestionnaire (survey) through Google form has been distributed for all the IT PMO members ofrnthe Commercial Bank of Ethiopia and an interview has been conducted with selected managers, rnteam leaders. The finding of the study indicates that the current practice of communicationrnmanagement in the study areas shows a gap with respect to the benchmark practice of Projectrncommunication principles outlined by PMI. In addition, the communication skills of team leadersrnand managers have been found as not satisfactory and a medium level conflict, an indication ofrnmiscommunication, has been observed between the study organization and its stakeholders suchrnas vendors and consultants. The communication channel, commonly used by the organization, rnwas an email that has limitations in project management processes. Finally, the level of intentionrn/focus given to communication management by the study organization was also below what itrnshould have been. Accordingly this result the study organization is recommended to use morernformal communication instead of informal, enhance the communication skills of its managers &rnteam leaders, using communication tools designed for project management, and followrncommunication processes outlined by PMI.
