In today’s world, many organizations have been undergoing through various projects in order to providernbetter services to their customers as well as to cope up the marketing competition they have beenrnchallenging. In 2016, Marriott International bought worldwide Starwood Hotels that enforced all thernStarwood hotels to be refurbished to the new hotel management standard. This transaction was the reasonrnfor different departments in the Sheraton Addis hotel to go through various upgrading projects to keep thernMarriott International brand. Among the range of projects in the hotel, this study delimits on thernmaintenance management system upgrading project within the Engineering Department. The objective ofrnthis study is to assess the project management practices of Sheraton Addis in terms of project managementrnknowledge areas for the maintenance management system upgrading project. The methodologies that werernfollowed for the development of this study was by scrutinizing research questionnaires as well as conductingrninterviews with project team members. This research has revealed the fact that the Sheraton Addis hasrndemonstrated excellence in the majority of the project management knowledge areas; whereas for the Risk,rnStakeholder and Integration Management components, knowledge gaps were observed in the projectrnmanagement practices. Therefore, in order to obtain successful project outcomes, all of the projectrnmanagement knowledge areas should be practiced appropriately and the Sheraton Addis should enhancernits competence in the Project Risk, Stakeholder and Integration management knowledge areas.
