Introduction: Despite an increasing number of studies on suicide inrnschizophrenia patients, limited data is available in low and middle income rncountries (LMICs). Various studies show different rates of suicide in schizophreniarnusing different methodologies and population. rnObjective: objective of this study is to determine the prevalence of suicidalrnideation and attempt among schizophrenia patients and associated factors among rnpatients with schizophrenia at Amanuel Mental Specialized Hospital (AMSH) inrnAddis Ababa, Ethiopia. rnMethods: Data was obtained from the clinical trial study was conducted among arnsample of 391 schizophrenia patients who were initially screened for possiblernenrolment in the clinical trial with the title â€˜A placebo controlled trial of folate with rnB12 in patients with schizophrenia with residual symptomsâ€™ at Amanuel MentalrnSpecialized Hospital, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The Columbia Suicide SeverityrnRating scale (CSSRS) was used to screen for suicidal ideation and attempt.rnSociodemographic and Clinical characteristics of participants were obtained fromrnthe primary data. SPSS version 25 statistical package was used for data analysis.rnDescriptive statistics and multiple regressions were done to determine associatedrnfactors. rnResult: A total of 390 participants were screened. Of these 11.8% endorsernsuicidal ideation with different severity (40/339) and 5.6% had different levels of rnsuicidal attempt. rnConclusion: In accordance with the study it is recommend a thorough clinicalrnevaluation for assessment of suicidal ideation and attempt in schizophrenia rnpatients. Further studies are needed to delineate factors affecting suicidal behaviourrnin schizophrenia in this setting.
