Background: public health officer is a field of study in Ethiopia for non physicians’ clinicians.rnThis was started in 1954 EC in Gonder college of Public Health to meet the health needs of ruralrncommunities.rnObjective- To explore the perceptions of public health officers on whether the curriculumrnprepares them for clinical practice in the real environment.rnMethodology-A qualitative research design will be used to explore health officers perceptions ofrnwhether the curriculum prepares them for clinical practice. Data collection will done using semistructuredrninterview guide with open ended questions. The questions will be developed usingrnpersonal experience and key informants. The source population for this study will be a graduatedrnpublic health officers who will be interviewed until saturation of data is reached.rnData analysis was begun with translation from Amharic to English during the transcriptionrnprocess. A thematic analysis approach was used.rnResult- the result of the study has revealed that some major curriculum related gap whichrncontributes for perceived knowledge gap of public health officers. The main gap arerndisproportional time allocation for very crucial courses of basic sciences and clinical. Therncurriculum lack strict monitoring system of its implementation.rnConclusion- Based on the result of this study some strength and weakness of the curriculum arernidentified. Some of the strength is mentioned are strong course content of both clinical andrnpublic courses. The main weakness in the curriculum is some of the courses are notrnproportionally allocated with adequate time and course contents like that of basic science andrnclinical courses.
