The objective of this research is assessing the causes and impacts of water scarcity onrnhouseholds: the case study of Burayyu Town AdministrationrnThe major determinants of water accessibility are distance, time and quantity of an individualrnconsumes per a day. The paper analyzes households` water use through random sampling of therntotal of 19,546 household’s and asked 120 households using structured questionnaire. SPSSrnsoftware has been used for data analysis. The major indicators of water scarcity are thernFalkenmark indicator, the social water index, and the basic human water requirement. Thernsurvey result shows that more than half of the households suffer from water scarcity. Thernsampled households’ have the amount of water consumption in per individual were 10 liters perrnday. Amount of water demand liter per day exceeds supply in the study. Water is considered to bernaccessible if an individual consumes 1700m 3 per year according Falkenmark indicator. Thernindividual in the town receives 9m 3 per annum which is absolute scarcity. The causes of waterrnscarcity are fast urbanization and population growth, lack of capacity, and inadequate finance.rnThe impacts of the water scarcity have brought on households are the economic and healthrnimpacts
