Infant Industry Protection Policy In Ethiopia Prospects And Challenges The Case Of Korean Development Trajectories As A Role Model

It is a widely accepted theme to read the fact the industrialization is an engine of growth. This isrnapplicable to all countries of the world whether developed or underdeveloped. With thisrnstatements one can start an argument that is the current underdeveloped world, on one partrnshould critically study and analyze the stage of their economic, social, political, geographicalrnsituation and take it as a base for their economic planning, which is lacking in countries likernEthiopia, then what we should learnrnfrom the developed world is first their developmentrntrajectories by critically examining their stage of development how they passed through, thenrnadapt it step by step approach sequencing the development plan scientifically meaning what tornemulate and what not to emulate. In Ethiopia, What can be read from different sources (EDRI,rn2014), the Micro and Small Enterprises sector is largely unknown sector; this situation by itself isrnweakness. As to the explanation of (K.Mogus, 2008), fundamental principle governing growth andrndevelopment of a nation is its potential to exploit its factor endowment, i.e. Agriculture ledrnindustrialization.rnEthiopia’s industrialization strategy starts from Medium level and then goesrnupward which means in planning (GTP I and II) the MSE sector is largely unknown (EDRI 2014).rnWhen this situation further reviewed, industrialization growth sustainability cannot be said that itrnhas a strong base because it started from mid-level than micro level industrialization unlike thernKorean development path and this is the basic argument the researcher highlights here. Added tornthe above fact, the necessity for entrepreneurship, innovative approach to business ideas andrnproductivity development in Ethiopia’s Small industries is highly demanding, because this sectorrnis considered as a breeding ground for industrialization. This research paper mainlyrnconcentrates on the pros and cons of the macro and small Enterprises sector development andrnfactors that are impediments to the growth of this sector
