Assessment Of Implementation Of Quality Management System And Factors Affecting Implementation In Public Hospitals Amhara Region Ethiopia

Introduction: Total Quality management is one of the most important changes which haverntaken place in the field of health care management. The federal ministry of health of Ethiopiarnhas chosen QMS as a comprehensive and applied strategy to achieve administrativerndevelopment and improve the quality of services in order to respond to the needs andrnexpectations of the society. Since evidences are lacking, there is a needs of break thoroughrnassessment of existing status of quality management system implementation in hospitals.rnObjective: The study aims to assess current implementation status of quality managementrnsystem and factors affecting its implementation in public hospital, Amhara region 2017.rnMethodology: cross sectional descriptive study were conducted between January 2017-rnJune 2017, by using both quantitative and qualitative study design to asses’ qualityrnmanagement system implementation and factors affecting the implementation in randomlyrnselected seven public hospitals which are found in Amhara region. Implementation statusrnwere measured by 12 standard quality management activities from EHRIG and those whornreport the implementation status above mean implementation score were taken asrnimplemented and those report below the mean as not implemented. The quantitative datarnwere collected from professionals working in these seven hospitals by using self administeredrnquestioner and those participants were selected by using proportional random sampling andrnthe qualitative data were collected by using key informant interview from purposely selectedrnquality committee chairs of the seven hospitals. Data was entered using EPI data softwarernand analysis was made with SPSS 21 statistical software, descriptive statistics, bivariant andrnmultivariate logistic regression analysis were applied.rnResults: The finding of this study reveal that implementation status of quality managementrnsystem of hospitals found in Amhara region was 62% and implementation was found higherrnin primary hospitals. six variables were found significantly associated with qualityrnmanagement system in the hospital.(p
