Background - Ethiopia is one of the most populous countries in Africa where only less thanrn23% of women in the reproductive age group are currently using modern contraception. Thernobjective of this study was to assess factors influencing the utilization of modernrncontraception among women in the reproductive age group in Angolela and Tera District ofrnthe North Shewa Administrative Zone in the Amhara National Regional State which isrnlocated 110 kms north of Addis Ababa.rnDesign and Methods - This study was an institution based un-matched case-controlrnstudy in which four health facilities were selected from the existing six health facilities inrnthe district using the lottery method. The target population was women in thernreproductive age group (15-49 years). Two hundred and eighty five registered modernrncontraceptive users (cases) from the selected four health facilities and the same numberrnof women not using modern contraception (controls), visiting the same health facilitiesrnfor reasons other than family planning service were taken by simple random sampling.rnData analysis was done using chi-square test and logistic regression analysis.rnResults - Among the variables analyzed, respondents’ age, marital status and averagernmonthly income were the socio - economic and demographic variables that showedrnsignificant difference between the two study groups (p
