A community based cross sectional survey was conducted fromrnOctober 15/1991 to December 31g 1991, to measure the prevalence ofrnhypertension and its determinants in Wonchi Awraja.rnFrom 9 urban kebeles and 184 rural kebeles in the Awraja 24rnkebeles were selected by mUltistage sampling from which a total ofrn2,745 individuals who are 15 years old or abcive were included inrnthe study.rnRelevant measurements of-blood pressure, pulse rate count,rnbody weight, height, waist girth, and hip girth of the studyrnsubjects were taken and a pretested questionnaire was filled tornassess some of the other determinants of hypertension.rnIt was found that the prevalence of hypertension in the Awrajarnis 8.3t.
