Background:- the few earlier studies conducted among freshman collegernstudents in Ethiopia at the Gonder college of medical science practiced sexualrnintercourse and half of that sexual contact to have been with prostitutes or withrncausal individuals among these, most did not use condoms.rnAlthough there is no adequate information about the situation amongrnEthiopia college students, one study from western culture has indicated thatrncollege students fit in to either of the three sexual subculture: freernexperimentation of sexual act, monogamy, or abstinence. However, prevention ofrnsexual transmission of HIV requires either abstinence from unprotected sexualrnintercourse or modification of relevant behavior with proper knowledge andrnattitude.rnObjectives:- the objectives of this study is to asses predictors of condom usernusing Health belief model.rnMethods:- Across-sectional self-administered based survey was conducted atrnAlemaya University from September, 2004 to April, 2005. The study populationrnwas selected randomly in four departments namely Law, accounting, planrnscience and history after they have been stratified based on their batches. Therndata collection tool was designed in such way that health belief model variablesrnand AIDS-index behavior were used. Data analysis was computed by SPSS.rnEthical clearance was secured from Addis Ababa university, medical faculty andrnfrom the study university. Participants in this study was voluntary and based onrninformed consent.rnResult:- More female 21 (57%) had never used condom as compared to 47 (39%)rnof sexually active male students, who had never used condom. On the otherrnhand more male 74(82.2%) had used condom as compared to 16(17.8%) ofrnviiirnfemale sexually active students , who had used condom at least once. Therntheoretical constructs with the intention to use condom and past condom usernwas tabulated among male and female students.
