Background: Infection prevention is very essential for the safety and wellbeing of patients, rnhospital staffs and visitors of the hospital. All health care professionals and Nurses inrnparticular are often exposed to various infections during the course of carrying out theirrnnursing activities. Therefore nurses should have sound knowledge and strict adherence torninfection prevent practice in order to prevent hospital acquired infections.rnObjective: Improve the implementation rate of infection prevention and patient safety fromrn37%to 80% in Adama Hospital medical college by end of June 2019. rnMethods:pre-postintervention study design was used in a consultative approach to increasernthe implementation rate of infection prevention and patient safety in Adama hospital by rncreating awareness among nurses in providing practical on-service training. rnThe sample size for the study was determined by using single population proportion rnformula considering 83% proportion of good practice and 16.7% of proportion of HCWrnwho got any training on infection prevention and patient safety. The sample size selectionrnwas done by considering the rule of thumb andtheselection of nurses considers proportionalrnallocation to each department based on the size of nurses and then simple random samplingrnmethod was used.Data was calculated manually by using Microsoft Excel and manualrncalculators to calculate percentages. Data were collected from 83 sampled nurses’ thoughrnself-administered checklists and the collected data were counted, tallied and checked forrnquality and before data analysis. rnResult:The finding of this studyshows that there waslow implementation rate for infectionrnprevention 37% during pre-implementation period and later increased to 80% after thernintervention strategy has implemented. rnConclusions:Nosocomial infections have been recognized as a problem affecting the qualityrnof health care and a principal source of adverse healthcare outcomes. Increased hospital stayrndays due to prolonged wound healing in the hospital has increased costs of healthcare, rneconomic hardship to patients and their familiesas evidenced this capstone project during thernstudy period
