Background: Ultrasonography is widely used for assessment of renal pathologies. Measurementrnof renal size is one of the parameters we use to determine whether the kidneys have increased orrndecreased in size depending on which we suggest some differentials.rnObjective: This study was conducted to meet the objective of assessing the ultrasoundrnassessment of renal size in children visiting the Radiology Department of TASH from May2019-rnAugust 2019.rnMethods: Institutional based prospective cross sectional study was conducted. A total of 110rnstudy units were selected by using convenience non randomsampling technique. A structuredrndata collection format was used. After completing the data collection, the data wasanalyzed byrnSPSS version 25software. An ethical clearance was obtained from ethical review committee ofrnAAU-CHS department of radiology. Verbal consent is received from the parents or guardians ofrnthe patients.rnResults:Out of the 110 children included in the study, 65 were male and 45 were female. Therernwas no significant difference between the renal lengths of male and female (p=0.13). Therndifference in mean renal lengths between right (6.86cm) and left kidney (7.23 cm) wasrnstatistically significant (p= 0.08). There is a good correlation between age and kidney length (r =rn0.972), weight and kidney length (r=0.955), body surface area and kidney length (r = 0.940) andrnheight and kidney length (r = 0.932).rnConclusions: ultrasound measurement of the renal size in children with renal pathologiesrnnecessitates knowing the normal renal lengthranges in accordance with height of the patient.rnRecommendation: - Possible recommendations will be forwarded based on the results obtained.
