This paper deals with the problem of finding an optimum site for a railway station, rnsimultaneously it is intended to investigate, analyze and evaluate the Ethiopian railwayrnstation site selection using the method of Analytic Network Process (ANP). The paperrnidentifies five major criteria: (1) Environmental, (2) Engineering, (3) Institutional, (4)rnSocial, and (5) Economical factors. In addition, there are 23 sub criteria. Data arerncollected from Ethiopian Railways Corporation (ERC), questionnaire and survey, rnprepared in four types: (i) pairwise comparisons between major criteria with respect tornthe goal, (ii) pairwise comparisons between sub criteria with respect to common cluster,rn(iii) pairwise comparison between sub criteria with respect to the goal (i.e. the outerrndependences between sub criteria of different clusters), and (iv) pairwise comparisonrnbetween alternatives with respect to sub criteria. The results from the questionnaire arernfeed into ANP in order to evaluate and identify the most suitable site. Then, the studyrnevaluates the ERC decision in three selected railway station sites, Dire Dawa, Bike, andrnDewenle and have got the same in Dire Dawa and Dewenle, but different in Bike.rnFinally, the output of this particular paper is applicable not only on railway station siternselection but also on rail/road route, pipeline, waste disposal selection etc.
