Regenerative braking system is a system which converts mechanical energy tornelectrical energy during braking action. It is an important system for the vehicle suchrnas hybrid and electric train. This paper which mainly concerned about the potential ofrnregenerative braking system on the reduction of energy consumption.rnThis study will start with literature review about the Regenerative Braking Systemrn(RBS). The important components used in RBS will be determined such as electricrnmotor, motor controller and pantograph.rnThe methodology used to creating the simulation of the regenerative braking systemrnat different positions of the track levels of stations of the East-west line of AddisrnAbaba LRT by using MATLAB software.rnIn general regenerative braking system generates a reusable energy about 3.7% ofrnthe consumed energy of the system in the east-west line with in 22 stations and fivernof the stations are elevated. This energy can be generated in one tripe of the trainrnmovement from Ayat to Tor-hayloch.
