Marital life dissolution has important and direct effect on the well being of the family at thernindividual or societal level. But studies on marital dissolution with its causative factorsrnespecially due to family migration are rare and scarce in our cauntry. The present studyrnattempts to explore the basic demographic and socio- economic determinants of female firstrnmarital dissolution in Addis Ababa, the case of Yeka sub-city, using primary data. A total ofrn600 women were interviewed using structured questionnaire. And an in-depth interview wasrndone with selected key informants. Among surveyed women 61.3 percent of the families werernmigrants within first marriage. Concerning the result, the bi-variate analysis indica tes thernsignificant association of migration status of the family, age at first marriage and some socioeconomicrncharacteristics of respondents with marital dissolution. Moreover migration statusrnof the family, number of migration, stream of migration within first marriage and the placernwhere the family live at the start of first marriage are among the variables which showed arnsignificant difference between the dichotomous groups. On the other hand, the result ofrnlogistic regressian analysis showed that first marital dissolution would be higher amongrnmigrants than non migrant families and as the number of migration within first marriagernincreases marital dissolution would increase. Moreover families who live in rural area afterrnthe time of first marriage have a higher risk of marital dissolution than those who lived inrnurban area. Accardingly, based on this result the researcher recommend to study further onrnthe causes and cansequences of family migration in relation to marital dissolution.
