Ethiopia is among the least developed countries where basic health has not yet accessible for thernmajorih) of its people. Common fatal health problems in the counm) are those diseases that can bernprevented easily. Hence, the Ethiopian government with the aim of reaching health services to allrnplanned Health Extension Program (HEP). This study was made to asses the Human ResourcernDevelopment (HRD) in Health in the HEP in Oromia Regional State, East Showa Zone, Bosetrnand Lume Weredas. The study was intended to assess the general situation of the Human resource development inrnthe HEP in the specified study areas. It has also tried to assess the working environment ofrnHealth Extension Workers (HEWs) in relation to Human Resource Management (HRM)rncomponents This was a census study conducted by interviewing HEWs using questionnaire and supported byrnin-depth interview of the concerned Wereda, Zonal and Regional officials. The results illustrate Ihat proper functioning of HEP requires provision of essential educationrnand training that are the main inputs followed by continuous technical alld administrativernsupport from the Health system. Besides this, construction of Health Posts (HPs), availability ofrnadequate working materials, supported follow-ups should be aggravated to serve the purpose ofrnthe program. It further highlighted that n;obilization of volunteer community heallh workersrnfunction as a support and serve as a link between the broad governmental efforts and therncommunities at the grassroot level. In general. the health sector development of the HEP should be considered as the focal point andrnefforts should be strengthened by all concerned inorder to integrate health activities with thernoverall development endeavor and accomplish the goal.
