This is an experimental study that was conducted to explore the effectiveness of CBC onrnthe AA and SS of underachiever students’ taking into account their LSs. Underachiever studentsrndid not receive proper counseling services that focus on their irrational beliefs and emotional andrnbehavioral problems so that they can develop effective study skill and enjoy academic successrnThe study was executed on 77 randomly selected grade nine underachiever students in HawassarnTabor Secondary School. The students’ AA, SS, Age, Sex, PSES, and LSs were considered inrnselection and assignment of participants. LSI, SSI, and PSESI, document analysis, andrnobservation were utilized to collect data and Kruskal Wallis Test, One way ANOVA, Brown &rnForsthe test, and Factorial analysis were used to analyze the data.rnThe study groups were homogeneous on their composition of the demographic variables,rnexcept for LSs and PSES. The study found out significant mean difference on AA F (2, 71) =rn4.92, P= 0.01, = 0.05 among the visual, audio, and kinesthetic LSs groups. The study alsornobtained significant mean difference F (3, 73) = 2.90, p = .04, = 0.11, α = 0.05 on the SSrnamong groups. In conclusion, CBC alone or that considered the students’ LSs is effective inrnimproving the AA and SS of underachiever students’. It good if school counselors select andrndeliver Cognitive Behavior Counseling for underachiever students’ depending on their LSs so asrnto improve their AA and SS.
