This study aimed to investigate how some selected Addis Ababa residents perceive EBC’S police TV program and how the contents of the program reportedly affect them socially and psychologically. To find out the available information, two qualitative data instruments, in depth interview and focus group discussions were employed. Regular viewers of Police Ena Hibreteseb were targeted for the research. They were selected purposively. Twenty individuals were headhunted for the sake of key informant in depth interview and other twelve people participated in two different focus group discussions. Each focus group discussion lasted for duration of one hour and each in depth interview lasted thirty to forty minutes. Results obtained from those participants of in depth interview and focus group discussions confirmed that their perception towards Police Ena Hibreteseb was divided in to different categories. Mainly the participants perceived contents of Police Ena Hibreteseb negatively .It was also observed that among the respondents, female respondents perceived the show negatively than male respondents. Because it is fear alluring for them. Similarly, those participants with better academic and professional background believed that the show affects them socially and psychologically. Likewise, among the participant, those who are media professionals were found to believe the show violated media ethics principles. From the perspectives of audience reception theory, out of the 32 participants, the majority of them were oppositional readers, some of them were dominant and few of them were negotiated readers of the contents of Police Ena Hibreteseb. Therefore, based on the findings, key actions were recommended. As a producer and presenter, journalists are expected to work responsibly and have the duty to act in the domain of the social and psychological values of their society. They should also commit themselves to professionalism and media ethics. In addition, as a program Police Ena Hibreteseb, should have consultants from diverse disciplines who are going to contribute for content development. The government also has a duty to expand media literacy to its citizens.
