This research aims to analyse the practice and challenges of ensuring the developmental rights ofrnurban refugee children. The study has specific objectives of assessing the developmental needs ofrnthe urban refugee children, the ways their developmental rights are being ensured, the challengesrnand barriers associated with ensuring the developmental rights, the strength of the urban refugeernchildren that would be vital in ensuring their rights and the response of the urban refugeernchildren regarding the protection of their developmental rights. The research is a qualitativernstudy applying instruments of data collection such as observation, in-depth interviews, and keyrninformant interviews. The study followed a case study method. Although there are different typesrnof case studies, illustrative case study type has been applied. The researcher applied both primaryrnand secondary data sources. The study area of this research is a Jesuit Refugee Service, anrninternational non-governmental organization with the only child protection centre that focuses onrnrefugee children. Purposive sampling was applied to select the participants of the study as thernparticipants of this study were administrative bodies of these organizations. There was a total ofrnthirteen participants, both from the services users and organization staff. The findings of thisrnresearch indicated that urban refugee children just like any other child possess variousrndevelopmental needs and different efforts are being carried out in order to fulfil therndevelopmental rights of urban refugee children. However, at times both the urban refugeernchildren and the organization that provides services for them face different social andrninstitutional challenges. Based on the findings, the researcher has concluded that even though thernefforts to ensure the developmental rights of urban refugee children have shown great strides,rnthere are concerns that should be given due attention in order to provide quality care for urbanrnrefugee children and ease their transition. Finally, Implications for Social Work practice andrnpolicy makers have been forwarded.
