Many people suffer from mental or behavioral diseases worldwide. Inmates in prison are rnespecially susceptible to these illnesses. However, a lack of research into the prevalence and rnseverity of psychological issues including depression, anxiety, and stress can have rndetrimental consequences in the life of inmates. The purpose of this research was to assess rndepression, anxiety, and stress among inmates at Kaliti High Security Correction Center. A rncross-sectional research design was used in this study and a total of 288 inmates participated rnand filled the questionnaire. The data was examined with descriptive statistical methods such rnas frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, as well as inferential statistical rnmethods such as One Way ANOVA and Multiple regression analysis. Based on the findings rnof the study, 78%, 62.8%, and 64.9% of respondents reported symptoms of depression, rnanxiety and stress respectively ranging from mild to severe. Inmates who were single had rnhigher rates of depression, anxiety, and stress sores than those who were married. Convicts rnwith children were shown to have a high level of depression, anxiety, and stress. There was a rnstatistically significant variation in the prevalence and degree of depression, anxiety, and rnstress among inmates depending on age, marital status, having children, religion and rneducational status. Furthermore, multiple regression analysis revealed that depression, rnanxiety and stress were associated with socio-demographic and prisoner related variables.rnBased on the findings, it is possible to conclude that having children is a risk factors for the rnprevalence of symptoms of depression, anxiety and stress.
