The goal for this study was to assess the educational challenges of street children and copingrnmechanism at Dale Dembal primary school. The study was mainly qualitative. It employed casernstudy research design because it allowed the researcher to conduct in-depth interviews andrnobservation schedules to gather both, factual information systematically and also record therncharacteristics of interest as they occur. Purposive sampling techniques methods were used torndecide respondents. All these data were collected through interview, observation and focusrngroup discussion. The categories of respondents were street children students, family of thernstreet children students, school director, itinerant teachers, peer of street children student andrnhome room teacher. The study revealed that many educational challenges that affect streetrnchildren as students and they also use different coping mechanism individually and with thernsupport from the school and the community. The cause of all challenges faced street childrenrnstudent are poverty, family divorce, death of family, lack of family planning and family illiteracy.rnThe study recommended that: partnering with local organizations, such as save the children inrnEthiopia, that offer school preparation courses along psychosocial support to help streetrnchildren readjust to mainstream life, facilitating coordination between schools and governmentrnto raise awareness of these issues. The school and government has to work on providing streetrnchildren and families with school starter kits, which include uniforms, exercise books and otherrnmaterials they may need to start their journey into education. Generally, to solve these problemsrnthe researcher recommended the school as they work with community, governmentalrnorganization, non-governmental organization and street children themselves
