The purpose of this study is to examine the interpersonal relationship of coaches and an athletesrnas a factors for athletic performance in the case of Ethiopian middle distance National team. Inrnthis study ten athletes, one head coach and one general manager of the team involved. The majorrninstruments in this study were questionnaire, interview, and field observation. The questionnairesrnwere administered for both an athletes and the coach of the team. The questionnaire contained 25rnitems for athletes, and 10 items for the coach to consolidate the information obtained fromrnthe questionnaire, unstructured interview was conducted with the general manager of the teamrnand field observation was used.rnA key finding related to among an Athletes interpersonal relationship, the majority of athletesrnresponded that there is a mutual respect and freely communication between an athletes. I n additionrnan Athletes agree with their coaches on treats equally and fairly.rnIn conclusion, coach-Athlete interaction immediately prior to performance are-focused on anrnathletes mental readiness, optimal mental and physical preparation, athletes’, positivernreinforcement of team plan/strategies, team cohesion, and coach preparation. Coach- athleterninteractions were focused on motivation, confidence, positive reinforcement. Importantly,rncoaches needed to be aware of all aspects of their Athletes behavior and personality in order to bernan effective coach.rnHence, the researcher recommends relation to the interpersonal relationships of an athletes.
