Major Factors That Affect Female Students Participation In Teaching Handball In Case Of Degollo Preparatory And Secondary School In Jama Woreda

The purpose of the study was to investigate the major factors that affect femalernstudents’ participation in teaching handball in Degollo preparatory andrnsecondary school. Samples were taken from grade 12th females students, fromrnthe total of 348 female students, 70 female students were selected by usingrnsystematic random sampling technique. To get supplementary information for thernstudy area 3 subject teachers, 9 knowledgeable teachers and the 2 schoolrnprincipals selected purposefully. The study was carried out with descriptivernsurvey method and both qualitative and quantitative approaches were used.rnQuestionnaires focus group discussion and observation checklist was analyzedrnby using percentage and word. The major finding indicated that the performancernof the teachers’ ability to demonstrate during the lesson was poor; lack ofrnadequate material and facilities also affected the females’ need of participation.rnPhysical education teachers’ interactions with their students were not inrnadmiring level. Lack of interest and motivation had also seen as problems duringrnthe lesson. It was concluded that the participation of female students withrnhandball lesson as subject matter were highly affected by the school withrnshortage of facilities and equipment, attitude of female student and teachers.rnTherefore, based on the findings of the study, it is recommended to allow femalernstudents to participate in handball activity with the help of physical educationrnteachers. It is also recommended that the school facilities and materials shouldrnbe fulfilled to enhance females’ participation with handball in addition to therncommunity help.rnKeywords: participation, handball, female students, physical educationrnteachers, materials
