This study was undertaken to explore the living situations of persons withrnvisual impairment in hosanna town. To this end, 20 persons with visualrnimpairment, 30 officials (experts) from concerned organization, 2 religiousrnleaders and 2 community elders purposely selected in all 3 kebelernadministration of Hossana town to gather information pertaining to thernliving situations of persons with visual impairment.rnBasic questions raised Â·to address this issue include backgroundrninformation of the sample population, their current living conditions, socialrnstatus, beliefs (views) external and internal locus of control, and otherrnvarious factors that affect their living situations.rnThe study used semi-structured, structured, open-ended interviewrnquestions and focus group discussion. Qualitative and quantitativernmethods were used to analyze the data .rnThe result of the study indicated that 12 were illiterate individuals. wherern14 of them happened to lead their life by begging. In addition to therneconomic hardship, segregation and stigmatization, negative attitudesrn(views) and stereotyped views are the major social problems encounteredrnby visually impaired individuals. As it was found that majority of themrnsuffer from high feeling of loneliness, helplessness and low self-esteem.rnMost of their problems raised due to lack of preventive measures, skillrntraining, income generating programs, absence of medical services, specialrneducation services, ignorance of the people and low awareness.rnOn the basis of the study findings, suggestions to improve the livingrnsituations of persons with visual impairments are provided
