An analytical study is performed to assess the effect of different shear wall area to floor arearnratios on the response of high rise reinforced concrete buildings under earthquake loading. Inrnorder to achieve this a total of 116 building models that have 8, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 and 40rnnumber of stories with different shear wall ratios are generated. The seismic response of thisrnbuilding models are examined by performing response spectrum analysis using ETABS 16.2.0rnsoftware program. Variation of the main parameters that affect the seismic performance ofrnbuildings, which are inter story drift, roof top displacement and base shear responses, withrnvarying shear wall ratios are studied and compared with the approximate results given byrnliteratures. The analytical result shows that story drift decreases with increasing shear wall arearnto floor area ratios but, the rate of reduction is lower for higher shear wall ratios. Increasingrnshear wall area to floor area ratios beyond 2% has not significant effect on reducing story drift.
