The effective length and critical buckling load of concrete filled steel tube (CFST) columnsrnare the two key parameters to determine its ultimate strength for engineering design.rnDesign codes such as Euro codes and others have limitations regarding to critical bucklingrnload and effective length values for the CFST columns. rnrnHence, in this thesis, to determine the critical buckling load and effective length factorrnbased on linear and non -linear buckling analysis, isolated CFST columns with differentrnend conditions were investigated. By comparing the results of linear and non-linear finiternelement analysis result with the current design practice, possible recommendations havernbeen given to referring to effective length factor, and consequent critical buckling load forrnconcrete filled steel tube (CFST) column.rnrnThe results indicate that the current theoretical and recommended effective length factorsrngiven on the EC4 is a conservative estimate which gives uneconomical design so that therncurrently adopted code underestimates the critical Buckling load of the CFST column.
