The study was undertaken to identify factors that affect the academic performance of students atrnBahirDar Uni versity. The sample which is selected using stratified random sampling consists ofrn36 students (107 male and 29 female) . Twenty-three variables that could possibly affect thernacademic performance of the students were considered.rnData on students past experience, parental economIc and educational background,rnlearning/studying styles/ways and socio-demographic variables like sex, age ... etc wererncollected using a structured self administered questionnaire.rnA preliminary analysis was carried out tlu·ough chi-square test and correlation analysis. Therncombined effect of the explanatory variables was analyzed using stepwise regression analysis.rnThe study revealed that EHEEQE OPA, frustration caused by fear of academic dismissal, lack ofrnsmooth interpersonal relationship between teachers and students in the teaching-learning processrnand whether a student studies alone or in group are the only important factors in affectingrnstudent's academic performance, and EHEEQE OPA is the first best predictor of student'srnacademic performance.
