Prevalence Of Arv Related Adverse Drug Reactions Among Children Taking Haart At Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital

Antiretroviral Treatment (ART), although not a cure, can help people from becoming ill forrnmany years and this has improved the survival of HIV patients. In Ethiopia about 55,000rnpeople and globally more than 1.3 million people have been taking ART until the end ofrn2006. Scaling up of ART treatment is planned by WHO and the Ministry of Health of thernEthiopian Government. Although ART treatment has decreased HIV associated mortality andrnmorbidity, a number of patients still die after the start of ART. A total of 213 child patientsrnhave been considered from Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital ART clinic for the study. Thernanalysis of the data using the binary logistic regression shows that AZT associated anemia,rnd4T associated peripheral neuropathy and NVP associated skin rash have influence on thernsurvival of child patients. i.e. Child HIV patients under ART follow up has developed AZTrnassociated anemia, D4T peripheral neuropathy and NVP associated skin rash.
